A Shiba Inu as Your First Dog
The Shiba Inu is really getting to be quite a popular dog. Which is amazing considering how it was once almost extinct. But you may have heard many who have said first-time dog owners should not consider the Shiba Inu as their first dog. We investigate as to why that is!
Allergic To Dogs
Truth is some of us are allergic to dogs, allergic to cats, pets in general. In fact in some studies, it is believed that 30% of us are allergic. This can be the most disheartening part of the journey to having a pet. Then pops up the label of hypoallergenic dogs. But are they truly hypoallergenic? Yes and No! We’ll be taking a look at this in greater detail.
Meal Prep Whilst on Staycation with your Dog
Most hotels don’t provide a microwave (except serviced apartments or super duper premium rooms), likely because they want you to patronize their restaurants or room service. Which would be fine except even the pet-friendly hotels may not actually have any cooked food for your dog. Fret not, there are ways around this!
Staycation at the Amara Sanctuary Resort with Kuro
With the recent COVID-19 pandemic, it has certainly changed the way many hotels manage staycations, especially when they have to solicit business from the local community due to travel restrictions and the sheer lack of tourists. For many hotels that were already pet-friendly prior, the challenge was, very few allowed dogs above the 7kg. It is uncertain if the Amara Sanctuary Resort at Sentosa was one of those that changed that, because our beloved Kuro is 9kg! That said, whilst this was not sponsored by them, we would like to give an honest review about our experience.
Staycation with Your Pet Checklist
So if you’ve decided to go on a Staycation with your pet at one of the pet-friendly hotels in Singapore, you have to think about what you want to prepare for your pet. Remember to keep them as comfortable as possible. Most of them prefer to have their comforts, habits and schedules. So it’s important to make them feel welcomed and at home while you’re in a different place. We signed up for it, but they didn’t!
When is Pampering Your Pet Bad?
Let’s face it, for some of us, our pets are our children. And pampering them seems to be the obvious thing to do. But is it actually bad for our dogs? Who can resist those puppy dog eyes? As Pawrents, we love to take care of them, provide for them and spoil them maybe just a little. But actually overparenting a pet like a child can become a little bit of a problem too. Learn more!
Animal Lovers League
Animal Lovers League (ALL) is a registered charity and home to over 500 dogs and cats, and the animals under their care consist of vagrant strays, abandoned, traumatised, abused and rescued animals. ALL is strictly no-kill. For every pack of Kuro Snacks you buy, we will donate $1 per pack (>60g).
Collar or Harness?
At some point, you may wonder or question, exactly which is better for your dog? A collar or a harness? Generally, for most situations, a dog harness is way better than a collar. Learn why and make the right choice for your dog.
Shower Time
For some dogs, bath time is a great time. For others, like Kuro, it is sheer torture. But thanks to handy accessories that you can get, bath time doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Learn how you can make every shower time, a good time!
Alternative Pet Trackers
For Kuro, we use the Apple AirTag, but there are some other alternatives to choose from, that may even be more affordable. First and foremost, never forget that the most important thing to have for your dog (or cat) is to have a simple ID tag. A tracker should be an added measure. Learn more!
Pillows For Dogs
We tend to humanize our dogs. Just like how we use pillows to sleep for multiple reasons, should our dogs have pillows too? Now, we’ve seen our dogs rest on cushions, the side of the couch and so many other things as well. They do seem to like their neck support. But is it absolutely necessary? Let’s investigate!
Shoes for Dogs
This must be one of those seemingly absurd things, shoes for dogs. But actually, there are many advantages of letting your dogs where shoes. And fashion or style is not one of them. It’s one of those things that your dog will not be comfortable with initially, but they can get used to it over time.
Raincoats for Dogs
A raincoat can spare your dog the agony of holding it in, especially if their preference is to do their business outside. A raincoat can help them ignore the rain. We must admit this does take a bit of getting used to. With the hoodie component depending on the material, the pitter patter rain drops can make a sound that's amplified for them, making it ultra annoying. As with most things with your dog, you can make it a habit, and once you do, they will be fine.
Working From Home Guide
With many of us now working from home, what does this mean for our pets? They hit the jackpot, you’re going to be with them 24/7. Yaaaas! And there are plenty of benefits of working from home when you’re a pawrent. Here are some tips to ensure the best WFH experience with your dog.
Shishamo For Dogs
You might have had Shishamo at your local cafe, or Japanese restaurant, but can your dog or cat have it? Why of course they can! Not only can they eat Shishamo, it’s also good for them. Shishamo, otherwise known as the Capelin Fish, is a small forage fish of the smelt family. The capelin is silver in colour with a torpedo shaped, slender body. Every part of it from its head to tail, tiny bones and all, can be eaten and digested. The fish is small and one of the reasons why it’s so delicious is, whilst it has fairly little meat, it is mostly filled with a rich caviar. It’s as delicious to our pets as it is to us.
Can Dogs Eat Duck?
As allergies go, they are as individual as say a fingerprint. That applies for both dogs and humans alike. But generally, there are fewer instances of dogs being allergic to duck. Can dogs have duck? For sure, in fact, it’s a good poultry alternative to chicken or protein alternative to beef (these are common proteins that dogs are allergic to).
Seafood For Dogs
Some dogs have a see-food diet, where they see food and they will devour all of it. Omega-3 fatty acids, low-fat content, and high protein levels - they are all the benefits associated with eating fish. But what other types of seafood can dogs eat? What about mercury, sodium and more?
Animal Communication (AC)
Okay, so you might be a tad bit skeptical. But is Animal Communication really possible? Can we communicate with our cats or dogs? The answer is yes, not only is Animal Communication a thing, but it is really possible. When it is done well, it is truly remarkable. We recommend trying it to get a better understanding of your dog and establishing a deeper connection.
Dog Blankets
When the weather is hot, we inadvertently turn to our air conditioning for relief. When the weather is cool, or when we have non-stop heavy rain, it can get a bit too cool too. Thankfully there are ways around it and there’s nothing a little doggy blanket to keep them a little warmer and more comfortable. Here are some of the blankets that you can consider for your dog.
