Calamari? Yes please! But okay, not exactly the Calamari that we eat. Squid can be a healthy choice for your pet. As long as it’s cooked and prepared well and only contain ingredients that are safe for them. Dogs can eat them plain or with dog-friendly herbs and spices, but definitely no batter. Dogs can eat them only if they are not allergic to seafood or don’t have sensitive stomachs. But why is Squid healthy for dogs?

Squid is an excellent protein source for dogs that require a protein rich diet. It’s also low in fat. Squid contains many vitamins and minerals, including zinc, copper, and B vitamins.

  • Copper is excellent as it helps to stimulate the red blood cell production process. It also helps in the production of iron, which is formed in red blood cells.

  • Zinc is vital to a dog’s health, and squid contains zinc in high quantities. It is beneficial as it helps to fight microorganisms that can cause damage to your dog’s body. Zinc also helps to improve the immune system and reduces the likelihood of your pet becoming ill.

  • Squid contains many essential vitamins that are very healthy for dogs. It’s high in vitamin B3 that helps to stabilize your pet’s blood sugar levels. It also contains vitamin B12 and B2, which both help protect your dog’s heart.

  • Squid can help to keep your dog’s coats healthy and shiny and also help prevent cardiac disease.

It is also one of those categories of seafood that doesn’t contain high levels of mercury. Raw squid should be avoided as most dogs would react adversely to it with vomiting or diarrhoea as some of the side effects. As with any new diet, If you are uncertain if your cat/dog can consume anything or if you’re wondering about a change in diet, please consult your veterinarian.

Ika by Kuro Snacks is well cooked and formulated to reduce the salt levels, blended with the benefits of basil, parsley and ginger.
